Mature and explicit content. Not recommended for readers below 18-years-old. Yup, you’ve got to be that old to read my story. Consider yourself warned.

I’m Dakota Collins, a tough talking, eye patch wearing, workaholic photography student. Why am I important? Well, maybe because I get to spend an entire month with Vicious, only the sickest indie rock band out there.

You see, I needed a subject for my Spring Showcase introspective in order to graduate. During a chance encounter at a club I’d been sent to cover for the Daily Gossip, our ironically named college paper, the features writer I usually teamed up with introduced me to the band—by accident, I might add. It involved a run in with a scary, bald bodyguard. Anyway, long story short, I signed a contract to take pictures of Vicious.

I should have known their handsome yet way too serious for his own good bassist, Luka Visraya, wouldn’t be able to keep his hands to himself. He’s gorgeous and all, but the way he smiles spelled trouble with a capital L. I’m in for a long month with him around.

Crazy shit happens and then some. So, if you want the skinny on Vicious and the events revolving around my stay at Lunar Manor, read my story.

Again, refer to the warning above.

Review

If you have been a regular on this blog you may be familiar with Kate Evangelista and how much I love her work. so when she asked me to review her latest book Savor I jumped at the chance. and I was not disappointed with this being my favorite of hers so far.

Savor walks the line between contemporary new adult and paranormal romance making it the perfect book for lovers of either wanting to branch into the other.  however I would have found the paranormal aspect unnecessary were it not for the realization  (which I must admit occurred very belatedly {well i did suspect when i first saw the cover but quickly forgot about it when i started the book}) that this book was a companion to Taste (although in my defense it has been a while since I read it {77 books to be exact}). the paranormal elements to this novel were kept subtle with only small hints suggesting there was something more than normal happening until the end… which left me wishing I had the sequel in my hands now.

Dakota was a wonderful female lead strong sure and kick butt, however still vulnerable and damaged she was able to hold her own against Luka and having a character able to play off him and the rest of the strong characters that make up the band. while I had already formed a soft spot for Luka in Taste in this book I fell truly for him and his poor damaged soul.

While other girls her age were living a typical carefree life, she was picking up double shifts at a local café and struggling to pay the bills.
Always putting her sister’s needs and school first, Skylar has never had time to date or develop relationships. Now a senior in college, she has her sights set on an amazing internship opportunity. The last thing she needed was for a sexy distraction like Sebastian Thorne to walk into her life.
Sebastian Thorne had been an entitled and reckless nineteen year old when he got behind the wheel of his new sports car that night. When his night of indulgence goes tragically wrong, Sebastian hesitantly turns to the one person, he knows can make everything go away…the one person he hates ..his father.
Now twenty-six, Sebastian is the young enigmatic and powerful CEO of his late father’s design company, Thorne Enterprises. With both millions in the bank and a new woman on his arm almost every night, the world never knew the dark secret he carried inside. Still plagued with nightmares from the night of that horrific accident and having to leave the beautiful girl behind, Sebastian vows to find the one that haunts his dreams. Sometimes the choice of revisiting our past opens the door to a future that we never thought possible.

Review

this book sits firmly in the New-Adult to Adult age group with strong and graphic scenes. that being said unlike many romances for this age group i have read every second chapter was not a graphic sex scenes leading the story to truly be more about the love and relationship than the lust and sex i have come to expect. that being said this story did admittedly follow many cliches of this genre with the typical tragic and violent past given to the leading lady.

Personally for the most part i was not a huge fan of the characters both were the “perfect” archetype of their gender, him being the handsome rich and powerful “prince” while she was the beautiful innocent damsel in distress. this in itself is usually enough to turn me away from a book however there was something addictive about the writing that led me to continue to race through the story. while sometimes the retelling of entire scenes from another point of view got irritating particularly when they did not add much that the author had not been able to convey through body language or dialogue the split perspectives was done really well with all characters being given a unique and interesting voice.

The plot spun all over the place. going in i thought that the big twist was just going to be that Sebastian was the one responsible for her parents death however for the majority of the book this detail is almost forgotten as Skylar has so many other problems for the story to work through. while at points these extra conflicts seemed unnecessary by the end of the book i was glad for these extra conflicts outside what i had incorrectly assumed to be the main one as they helped to develop the characters in preparation of the unexpected (to me anyway) second book Thorneless which will be out on the 16th, which given the cliffhanger ending i must say i am glad about.

In Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Review

yes i did read this 400+ page book in a day… and yes it was amazing.
this was my first Rowell book having not yet fallen for the craze that is Eleanor and Park and i must admit i had a bad feeling that i wouldn’t enjoy it, don’t ask me why because i have heard nothing but good things about it.
i loved the dynamic between Cath and Wren and i found that Rowell perfectly captured the first year experience. i may never have been nearly as much a part of a fandom as Cath was but i loved the perspective of a character that was a writer. while personally i was not all that fussed on the love interest it was still pulled off really well and i liked that he was not your average love interest you see so often in YA.
the exerts from Simon Snow were brilliant and defiantly reminiscent of Harry Potter but i am still working out if Baz is meant to be Ron, Malfoy or some combination of both (that is my guess)

Quotes

“In new situations, all the trickiest rules are the ones nobody bothers to explain to you. (And the ones you can’t Google.)”

“Happily ever after, or even just together ever after, is not cheesy,” Wren said. “It’s the noblest, like, the most courageous thing two people can shoot for.”

“Real life was something happening in her peripheral vision.”

Sometimes, even the best-laid plans can unravel.
It’s spring break, and Tamara Winters would rather stay on campus and read romance novels than flaunt her size-fourteen body on a beach. But her best friend, Ronni, has other ideas. Against her wishes, Tamara is whisked away to picturesque Maverick Bay, where she’s wrangled into waiting tables with Ronni at the Shore Shack for its busy week leading to Maverick’s Surf Invitational. There she meets fellow schoolmate Xavier Solomon, the Invitational’s organizer and campus womanizer by reputation. From the moment Tamara sees him emerging from the waves like a hero in of one of her romance novels, all she wants to do is run away from the feelings he inspires in her.
Little does she know Xavier has been watching her for weeks now. In fact, after failed attempts at asking her out on campus, he’s concocted a crazy plan: fabricating romantic situations straight out of her favorite books. Xavier quickly realizes that if Tamara gets a whiff of his designs, he might as well spell CREEPER across his forehead. Yet as they grow closer, he’s convinced it’s a risk worth taking. What he hasn’t planned on, of course, is his drug-addicted, alcoholic stepbrother, who decides to join the fun and put a wrench in Xavier’s scheme.
Spring break is proving hotter than Tamara expected. Will her romance novels be able to compete?

Review

from reading the blurb this book was not quite what i expected (i was expecting this “plan to actually involve more scenes from books rather than just romantic dates {but maybe i just did not get the references}) that being said i really really enjoyed this book. Tamara, our leading lady… well to be honest she is basically an extreme version of me… so i connected with her within the first page. while Xavier was the perfect Male lead sweet, thoughtful and of course smoking hot. throw them together add in a best-friend who only wants what is best, a bad boy brother, season with just the right amount of summer beach fun and you have a steamy romance that will have you laughing on every page. One thing i must congratulate the author on is that while this book defiantly has it’s hot and steamy parts it is not overly graphic striking that perfect balance. a book i will read again and again… cause Tamera would want me to.

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?
Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. Having missed her flight, she’s stuck at JFK airport and late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s sitting in her row.
A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?
Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

Review

While i may not have enjoyed this book as much as This Is What Happy Looks Like it is written beautifully and captures those moments between the meeting of strangers and the realization of something more perfectly. an if it had not been written so beautifully i may never have picked up her other books. while it is only short i feel that for this story it was the perfect length and packed full of as many warm and fuzzies you can squeeze into a suitcase.

Quotes

“It’s not the changes that will break your heart; it’s that tug of familiarity.”

“Did you know that people who meet at least three different times within twenty-four hour period are ninety-eight percent more likely to meet again?”

“It’s one thing to run away when someone’s chasing you. It’s entirely another to be running all alone.”

“Is it possible not to ever know your type-not to even know you have a type-until quite suddenly you do?”

… i could go on and on… this author is just too quotable.

Review

this book was beautiful. it had me laughing and smiling… and just basically AWWWW-ING every couple of pages. it was exquisitely written making what would otherwise have just been a fun trashy book into something a little bit more… that being said i felt the ending was not quite what i had hoped throughout the book with me being left wondering what actually happens to the characters afterwards, despite how long this book was i just simply was not ready to say goodbye. i loved the inclusion of emails at the beginning of each chapter and the witty chemistry between the leads. the issue of celebrity is dealt with really well in this book and it was nice for this not to be a story of a celebrity and his fan.

Quotes

“Exactly. How can you know it makes you happy if you’ve never experienced it?”
“There are different kinds of happy,” she said. “Some kinds don’t need any proof.”

“Childhood memories were like airplane luggage; no matter how far you were traveling or how long you needed them to last, you were only ever allowed two bags. And while those bags might hold a few hazy recollections—a diner with a jukebox at the table, being pushed on a swing set, the way it felt to be picked up and spun around—it didn’t seem enough to last a whole lifetime.”

“It was exactly as he’d thought it would be, like the first time and the millionth time all at once, like being wide awake, like losing his balance. Only this time, it wasn’t just him; this time, they were losing their balance together.”

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

Review

This book followed the same formula as many New Adult books do. That being said it still created some beautiful and unique moments. Avery annoyed me some times and I did not see the point in half hiding what had happened to her from us readers (because it wasn’t really hidden just vague), Cam however was love at first sight… even if he could be a cocky asshole. This book is just so quotable and I loved Jacob and Brittany because they are just the people I would want as my best friends (and are bloody hilarious). There were some bits that appeared in here that just made no sense to me (such as Avery’s mother… but maybe I have just had to good a home life). The main tip you should take from this is “the way to a man’s heart may be through his stomach but the way to a woman’s is through her sweet tooth.”

Quotes

“You’ve been checking me out, haven’t you? In between your flaming insults? I feel like man candy.”

“My brain was telling me this was a bad idea and I told my brain to shut the fuck up, because it rarely told me anything helpful.”

“We are your friends. It is the law of friendship that you tell us things you don’t want to tell us.”

“Are you done dressing me like I’m your own personal Barbie?”
“Bitch, if you were my Barbie, you’d be half naked. ”

“I would be clapping like a seal right now if I weren’t so fucking hung over, just so you know. Inside, I am doing happy jumping jacks for you with glittery pom poms.”

Review

I was only going to rate this book 2 stars but then the ending pushed it up. I found I did not really connect with either of the characters and that the book was not quite what i was expecting based on the blurb (or for that matter the happy looking cover). the ending however was touching and I may or may not have shed a few tears. that being said I am not sure if this one is something i would read again. although may still read other books in this series because i have liked this authors other works

Quotes

“Everything’s not always black and white, Princess. Sometimes we have to do shit because there’s not another choice. Maybe you should think about that before you snub your nose at me.”

“Don’t cry, Princess. You know what they say. You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince.”

When Cassidy Jameson’s best friend Tyler took her to Texas with him when he left for college, she was expecting his cousin, their new roommate, to be a Stetson-wearing cowboy since his family owned a ranch; not this incredibly gorgeous guy with a husky Southern drawl that seemed to make the world stop whenever she looked at him. Because of her past, she’s only ever trusted two men in her life, Tyler and her dad whom passed away when she was six. But there’s something about Gage that draws her to him in a way she can’t explain, only problem? He’s always telling Tyler that he doesn’t want Cassidy living there and sees her as nothing more than his little sister.

Gage Carson was excited his cousin Tyler was coming to live with, and go to college with him. When he’d called to ask if he could bring his friend Cassi with him, Gage didn’t care. Gage had heard about this mysterious friend since they were kids and felt like he already knew her. Nothing would prepare him for watching her jump out of Ty’s Jeep though. Not only was Cassi the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen, but there was something about her that within seconds of meeting her, made Gage want to protect her, and make her his. Too bad Tyler made it a point to remind Gage on a daily basis that he was dating her and she was completely off limits.

Review

As soon as I read the Blurb for this I knew I was going to love it. Yet I was still surprised by the complexity of the story. This was not the trashy Romance I was expecting. It was beautiful in its own way and ugly in others but when the beauty and the ugliness came together the end result was breathtaking. That being said some parts were still less than perfect. The main thing that annoyed me was the characters. Ty was meant to care about Cassidy and claims to love her and yet does not even blink an eye at intentionally hurting her again and again **SPOILER** that being said I am glad that she forgives him and they end up friends again **SPOILER** meanwhile although Cassidy has “never thought of the future” due to her past you would think she would make SOME kind of plans once she gets freedom from it. Instead she seems perfectly happy being the perfect little housewife for her best friend and a guy she believes doesn’t even like her (and eventually their friends as well). Gage well actually he was one of the characters I have little to no complaints about any of his issues do bring the story forward and are actually believable in the situation. The more minor characters have very little information given about them. While they were numerous most of the “friends” blurred into one blob. What I really loved about this book though is I kept expecting it to end even if I had over 100 pages. This tells the story of a whole relationship and doesn’t just peter out when they finally kiss. it shows a not perfect relationship but REAL they have their problems but they work them out… and although reading that it sounds like that should be the boring part it isn’t it kept you on your toes and drew you in. I became really invested in their relationship as I got to know them both more and in reality that is what a true romance does. All the best romances have a little heartbreak.

Quotes

“Whoa, got it bad for your cousin’s girl already, huh? You gonna try to get with that?”I eyed Cassi in Ty’s arms and shook my head as I brought my beer up to take another long drink. “Nope.” Yes, yes, I am.”

“But there are only so many times you can handle heartbreak with someone before you have to start protecting yourself.”

A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay

When sheltered American good girl Allyson “LuLu” Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Review

I laughed, I cried, I fell in love, I stayed up til 4:30 AM. I very literally could not put this down. I love the premise of this book, so much changes in a day and in many ways it reminded me of the movie serendipity (a happy accident) I immediately connected with Allyson and loved that from the start this book was just as much about Lulu as it was about Williem. The side characters in this book are no less beautifully crafted, how can you not love Dee? The only complaint I have would be the number of spelling or grammatical errors in my text that jolted me out of the novel trying to work out what she meant. And of course the wait for the sequel, although this just means I will have to read this brilliant book again… although probably not so late at night. now off to google translate those phrases i am just going to “have to look up”

Quotes

“Part of me knows one more day won’t do anything except postpone the heartbreak. But another part of me believes differently. We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”

“Or maybe it’s not a miracle. Maybe this is just life. When you open yourself up to it. When you put yourself in the path of it. When you say yes.”

“You have to fall in love to be in love, but falling in love isn’t the same as being in love”

“And that’s when I understand that I have been stained. Whether I’m still in love with him, whether he was ever in love with me, and no matter who he’s in love with now, Willem changed my life. He showed me how to get lost, and then I showed myself how to get found.”

“But what if Shakespeare― and Hamlet― were asking the wrong question? What if the real question is not whether to be, but how to be?”

ok and now i am going to have to stop myself quoting because there is just too much more to quote READ IT. this is one of those books i have been throwing at people demanding they read ever since i first picked it up.
