Sometimes, even the best-laid plans can unravel.
It’s spring break, and Tamara Winters would rather stay on campus and read romance novels than flaunt her size-fourteen body on a beach. But her best friend, Ronni, has other ideas. Against her wishes, Tamara is whisked away to picturesque Maverick Bay, where she’s wrangled into waiting tables with Ronni at the Shore Shack for its busy week leading to Maverick’s Surf Invitational. There she meets fellow schoolmate Xavier Solomon, the Invitational’s organizer and campus womanizer by reputation. From the moment Tamara sees him emerging from the waves like a hero in of one of her romance novels, all she wants to do is run away from the feelings he inspires in her.
Little does she know Xavier has been watching her for weeks now. In fact, after failed attempts at asking her out on campus, he’s concocted a crazy plan: fabricating romantic situations straight out of her favorite books. Xavier quickly realizes that if Tamara gets a whiff of his designs, he might as well spell CREEPER across his forehead. Yet as they grow closer, he’s convinced it’s a risk worth taking. What he hasn’t planned on, of course, is his drug-addicted, alcoholic stepbrother, who decides to join the fun and put a wrench in Xavier’s scheme.
Spring break is proving hotter than Tamara expected. Will her romance novels be able to compete?

Review

from reading the blurb this book was not quite what i expected (i was expecting this “plan to actually involve more scenes from books rather than just romantic dates {but maybe i just did not get the references}) that being said i really really enjoyed this book. Tamara, our leading lady… well to be honest she is basically an extreme version of me… so i connected with her within the first page. while Xavier was the perfect Male lead sweet, thoughtful and of course smoking hot. throw them together add in a best-friend who only wants what is best, a bad boy brother, season with just the right amount of summer beach fun and you have a steamy romance that will have you laughing on every page. One thing i must congratulate the author on is that while this book defiantly has it’s hot and steamy parts it is not overly graphic striking that perfect balance. a book i will read again and again… cause Tamera would want me to.

The Statistical Probability Of Love At First Sight ~ Jennifer E. Smith

it is unusual for me to review two unrelated books by the same author in a row but after finishing This Is What Happy Looks Like (Review here) I was struck by the uncontrollable urge to re-read this one

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?
Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. Having missed her flight, she’s stuck at JFK airport and late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s sitting in her row.
A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?
Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

Review

While i may not have enjoyed this book as much as This Is What Happy Looks Like it is written beautifully and captures those moments between the meeting of strangers and the realization of something more perfectly. an if it had not been written so beautifully i may never have picked up her other books. while it is only short i feel that for this story it was the perfect length and packed full of as many warm and fuzzies you can squeeze into a suitcase.

Quotes

“It’s not the changes that will break your heart; it’s that tug of familiarity.”

“Did you know that people who meet at least three different times within twenty-four hour period are ninety-eight percent more likely to meet again?”

“It’s one thing to run away when someone’s chasing you. It’s entirely another to be running all alone.”

“Is it possible not to ever know your type-not to even know you have a type-until quite suddenly you do?”

… i could go on and on… this author is just too quotable.

Review

this book was beautiful. it had me laughing and smiling… and just basically AWWWW-ING every couple of pages. it was exquisitely written making what would otherwise have just been a fun trashy book into something a little bit more… that being said i felt the ending was not quite what i had hoped throughout the book with me being left wondering what actually happens to the characters afterwards, despite how long this book was i just simply was not ready to say goodbye. i loved the inclusion of emails at the beginning of each chapter and the witty chemistry between the leads. the issue of celebrity is dealt with really well in this book and it was nice for this not to be a story of a celebrity and his fan.

Quotes

“Exactly. How can you know it makes you happy if you’ve never experienced it?”
“There are different kinds of happy,” she said. “Some kinds don’t need any proof.”

“Childhood memories were like airplane luggage; no matter how far you were traveling or how long you needed them to last, you were only ever allowed two bags. And while those bags might hold a few hazy recollections—a diner with a jukebox at the table, being pushed on a swing set, the way it felt to be picked up and spun around—it didn’t seem enough to last a whole lifetime.”

“It was exactly as he’d thought it would be, like the first time and the millionth time all at once, like being wide awake, like losing his balance. Only this time, it wasn’t just him; this time, they were losing their balance together.”

Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

Review

the first time i read this book was as my first ebook squinting to try and read this on my phone… the next day i ran out and bought both this and the sequel because not only is the cover BEAUTIFUL but so is the book itself. on second reading i found this book no less enjoyable… while the majority of this book is set up and introduction, which may not be as good the second time around i still found it wonderfully enjoyable and have once again jumped right into the second book. the love connection is so realistic and sweet and i love the entire cast not just the two romantic leads.

Quotes

“Well, spit on my empty grave–if it ain’t the attack of the Disney princesses!”

“I spent the rest of the day in someone else’s story. The rare moments that I put the book down, my own pain returned in burning stabs.”

Kate may have defeated her boyfriend’s nemesis, showing off her sword skills in the process, but Vincent is sure that she will be at risk as long as they stay together. What’s more, it’s becoming clear that their relationship might prevent him from fulfilling his true purpose: saving the lives of others.
They might have the romance of the century, but will that be enough?

Review

the story really gets stared in this dramatic and beautiful sequel. while things may have been set into motion in the first book this second book gives us all the information to see the bigger picture of this series. Throw in a shocking cliffhanger ending and you have a book i literally could not put down that has me chomping at the bit to see how this series ends… although i have my suspicions.

Quotes

“Still in one piece?” Vincent teased, pulling me close & planting a soft kiss on my lips. “After dirty-dancing with Jules, I’m not sure.”

“As Jules kissed my cheeks he whispered, “She has nothing on you, of course, Kates. It’s just that you’re so very…taken.”

“If “Flirt” qualified as a foreign language, my sister and Ambrose would both have PhDs in it.”

Set in the romantic and death-defying world of the international bestselling Die for Me trilogy, this digital original novella follows Jules, a brooding, immortal French artist who has fallen in love with his best friend’s girlfriend.

Jules Marchenoir is a revenant-an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save human lives. He’s spent the better part of the last century flirting his way through Paris, but when he met Kate Mercier, the heroine from Amy Plum’s Die for Me trilogy, he knew his afterlife had changed forever and he had found the love of his life. Until Kate fell for his best friend, Vincent. Now Jules is faced with an impossible decision: choosing between his loyal friend and a love truly worth dying for.

Review

as this story tells 2 books worth of information in under 100 pages it is no surprise that it feels rushed and that the story is told rather than experienced but there are some beautiful scenes which we can now see from Jules POV plus an extra paragraph after the end of Until i die that make you rush to pick up book 3… that paragraph changed what i thought the ending was ENTIRELY. on a side note … if i was not already in love with him this novella made me fall for Jules entirely… to the point i was actually hoping that he would win the girl off Vincent in the last book

Quotes

“She leaves an empty hole behind her. There was this feeling of optimism and joy in the house when she was around that’s now turned into void. Like Vincent, I feel hollow. Sad. And as the days pass, I begin to realize I’ve grown to care for Kate. Not as my best friend’s girlfriend, but as someone in and of herself. And I realize I miss her.”

“It’s with a feeling of despair that I return her to his arms. I want him to be angry. I want him to challenge me. Because then the truth will be out and I won’t have to hide my feelings. But he trusts me too much to suspect me. And I love him too much to hurt him.”

I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.
Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.
It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.
After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

Review

i hate to say it but i was a shade disappointed with this book. while i doubted that Kate would end up with Jules (who i am surprised to say i was cheering for after Die for Her) i was sort of hoping for there to be a little development there… because that is what i thought was suggested at the end of that novella. considering Vincent was killed  i was expecting a little more action in the beginning of the book to make up for the lack of romance… unfortunately instead we are given pages upon pages of “research” and reading books. that being said after that halfway mark things did get more exciting and although i foresaw the “Big Twist” i am still pleased with how the Author dealt with the issue. my other big complaint is to me at least the story did not feel quite finished with some loose ends still hanging… while others were wrapped up very quickly But at least Ambrose FINALLY got his act together maybe a spinoff is coming (focused around the “Numa” Louis)  or maybe i just need to close the book an except that this story continues without me.

Quotes

“Kate, I’ll say it like this. Vincent is my best friend. There’s not a person in this world I’m closer to. But for the past year, I have betrayed him in my heart every single day because I want for myself what he loves the very most.”

“The owner of the boom box marches over and turns the music down. He shrugs when he sees me staring. “Hey, noise pollution elicits fewer phone calls to the police than screaming and battle sounds. At least, that’s the case in Berlin,” he says.”

“Feelings change with time – or at least pain lessens with time; I know that from experience.”

“I understand it, but I don’t like it. I wish we could all be together like before: best friends, not heartbroken strangers.”

A belated June Haul

Yes this post is late…very very late but in my defense i have been in hospital and on very high pain meds… but still i present to you the books of June… i am not including any books i may have got after the cut off despite being late.

i predicted that this month would see a rise in books and guess what IT DID. when you factor in all the books i ordered online in previous months plus the fact that i tend to buy books while stressed (say in end of semester exams) and yes my book buying did go up a little (AKA HEAPS) while last month i got away with only 4 books this time it was more than 4 times that… anyway enough of the berating (cause i know this month is looking pretty bad too) lets get on to the exciting part… THE BOOKS

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

I have tried to claim from the beginning that cookbooks don’t count (still not sure if i actually believe that or not) but even though these two delicious looking cookbooks came out of my budget i still think it was worth it. Blissful Brownies was only $6 and Macaroons was only $10 so that is not that much of a stretch… compared to the rest of them

 SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

This month I decided to try “budget books”… in other words i tried to get books really cheap. these two were my attempt at second hand books… and while they were not overly expensive… they are probably not the books i would have picked up new (although i did want a copy of Aesop’s fables i am still eying a pretty leather bound edition and he’s just not that into you is something that i think could be a bit of a laugh) so did i really save any money? my other attempt at saving money was an even bigger failure though… and those books will appear in July’s Haul.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

If you have been on my blog before you may have come across my review of John Green’s The fault in Our Stars and know that i was not overly impressed. and yet here i stand with not one but 2 new John Green books… and really the reason is simply that while i did not overly care for the story… the writing was beautiful and with everyone raving about him it seems harsh to write him off after only one book (which was a cancer book… which as a general rule i HATE) so we have Looking for Alaska which is the other book i hear about everywhere and An Abundance of katherines which i picked up because it seemed to be a road-trip book… which i must admit i LOVE and it seems like a happy book… so should be a complete contrast to the fault in our stars.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey I saw in a book shop thought it looked interesting then managed to put down… with the though i Might come back for that. since then this book has exploded. so many great reviews have popped up and as i was already considering getting this anyway i raced out to pick up a copy.  as for Richelle Mead’s  Gameboard of the gods… after her Vampire academy series i would practically buy anything this women writes… plus it sounds so interesting.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

These two books were my rewards for finishing books for my Classic Challenge where i did allow myself to pick up a new classic for everyone that i read.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

these 8 were all online purchases which i have been waiting for… and with the exception of The girl in the steel corset were bought before this month. most of them are the next or last book in a series and the ones that aren’t are books where i have bought the entire series (at least as of this moment).

so that comes to 18 books which is 1 book every 1.6 days… not SOOO bad but a huge jump on last time… then again this month i have already made it halfway to this number in only a week… so who knows how many to expect for July.
